Last Friday we went to Intel Pack4DreamHack, Sweden. A sixteen hour bus trip from the Netherlands to Jönköping, Sweden, through Denmark and Germany. All that to visit the biggest Lan Event in the world: DreamHack. A unique experience if you ask me. It was my first time going to Sweden and DreamHack. Friends of mine had gone in previous years, so I wanted to go too, I just never did. But since I’m an intern at Duh-Events now, it was the perfect opportunity to go this edition. And I don’t regret it! The bus trip was going smooth; we were in Sweden faster than I expected. When I entered the halls, I was surprised: it was huge! O and wait… this was just one hall!
I shared a bungalow with Stefan, Jeroen and Tom. Thankfully, because sleeping in the hall at DreamHack didn’t appeal to me at all. The bungalow was great. The weather was fine as well. We had some rain, clouds and also some sun. Just like the Dutch weather. The only thing different was the beautiful landscape. Jönköping is situated at a huge lake. Luc Marc and I took nice (panorama) photos of it.
I had a great time at DreamHack. I sat next to Jeroen and opposite of some funny Swedish people (Nina, Felix and Björn). We enjoyed throwing paper balls and Kingston heads at each other a lot. I spent my time playing Worms, Minecraft and Droplitz. I’m not a huge gamer, so I enjoyed the atmosphere (we call it ‘gezelligheid’ in Dutch, but there’s no translation for that. You can describe it as cozy, sociable etc.). In the morning I had pizza for breakfast and we went out for dinner every night. It’s good DreamHack lasts only three days, otherwise I wouldn’t have fitted in the bus anymore.
I found it very funny to see that it didn’t get really dark during the night. When I walked the streets between 3 AM and half past three, it was light outside. Very special! The Swedisch Crones are funny as well: they remind me of Monopoly money.
The trip back went easy as well. I was home around 2 AM and I had a very good sleep. I needed it, because I had to make up for my lost hours.
I had a fantastic DreamHack. It was a lifetime experience to join Intel Pack4DreamHack and I am going there this Winter again!
