Where to start my blog with? It’s not the first time I write a blog. This one is special though: mainly my photos got posted as a news item, this time I do some textual stuff for Intel Pack4Dreamhack.

My name is Luc Marc Dijkstra, and I’m visiting the DreamHack event for the second time. Besides playing games, I do take photos and this all for fun! The result is that I take photos on trips or events organized by Duh-Events, which resulted this year in being the photographer of the house.

DreamHack is an experience which is hard to describe, but let me try to get into that. It is first of the biggest indoor Lanparty in the world, which means that every Lanparty visitor should visit it at least once in their life. In the Netherlands we have the biggest outdoor Lanparty in the world, so it is kind of funny to be around here. Another aspect is the diversity of the people that do visit the events. As for me this results in meeting people you have talked to before or completely new. The fun is that all of these people have another reason why they are here on DreamHack. Sponsors, visits, invited people, artists (performing on stage), press (from all over the world) et cetera. On the other hand the top edge of the gaming scene is around. That results in a competition with huge prices to win. The size of the event is really impressive and I did hear plans on extending it to even handle more visitors! DreamHack is still growing and I doubt it is easy to find another location to host it.

Another thing you notice as a Dutch outsider, is that Swedish people are a different kind of people then you are used to. Some are dressed in pink suits, others in a summer outfit and others are wearing a mask. Something you notice is the music that is playing all along the LAN. It’s also weird when everyone starts yelling or clapping, we’re just not used to that.

Being around for the second time you focus on other things. Talk to people from before, seeing how they are doing. Also, we Dutch people define ourselves by creating a Dutch line in the room we are settled in. Talking with people from Intel and then later being around when they show some awesome mosaic from our group picture is great and they even tell then they sponsor us to get to here. I think the power of the group we are traveling with is that we are proud of doing this and we will try to continue this as long as possible. This year I talked to somebody of the Kista University, he said: "yeah I’ve heard of Intel Pack4Dreamhack, cool what you people are doing!". We’re slowly getting known all across DreamHack, which is really cool.

Making photos takes time, but the results are great: making people happy, having something to watch for the people that are not on the event and of course for the packers. Gaming is something I barely do on DreamHack. I walk around a lot to socialize, shoot some photos and to relax.

Hope you all do enjoy the movies, photos and other stuff we post to give an impression of DreamHack. Who knows we ever meet each other during an event like this!
