Blog: Too little time

Early Friday morning, quick shower, check your bags and stuff just a few more times(and still forget your pillow) and we’re off to get to the pickup point. That’s how my DreamHack morning started. After getting a nice seat in the front by the window(thank you Rob and Jeroen) we were off to Oldenzaal to pick up the last couple of people and some very much needed food for the trip. Other than our random addition on the boat the trip was very smooth and straightforward and enjoyable due to the people around us.

After arriving I set up my computer and played a couple of games but pretty soon ran down to Hall C to check out the speedrunning section, containing a couple of old friends of mine from ESA(European speedster assembly) already. After shaking hands and saying hello we were off. From that point onward I was constantly running back and forth between my pc and the Speedrunning section, but I did not regret that at any point in time. It was an awesome experience being able to combine my love for pc gaming and speedrunning.

A couple of my biggest highlights were the trip: the GTA 5 Speedrun, the liveset of Hans & Dixz, the Mystery Tournament, playing Quake Live instagib with the Packers, hanging out at the lake before packing to enjoy the sunrise, and of course the trip back as well. The only very major gripe I have with Dreamhack is that you have way too little time to be able to experience the whole event and to check out everything.

But that’s easily fixed by just going again next edition, which is definitely my plan. The experience of going to Dreamhack was a unique one to me, and I enjoyed it to the fullest extent. Anyone that I didn’t manage to annoy into checking out the speedrunning area in hall C, please do. I’m sure you’ll enjoy it, if nothing else you’ll probably enjoy your games from your childhood being played very very well.

Thank you to Intel, Alternate, Duh-Events and everyone else involved for making this trip possible, and thank you to all the packers for making this trip as enjoyable as it was.
