#MeetAPacker – Jan A.K.A. Querex

Jan QuerexHi, I am Jan, although some might know me as Querex. I’ve been going to DreamHack since 2011 with the Intel Pack4DreamHack bustrip. It all started with this one thought: “You’ve to experience it at least once in your life as a gamer!”. But it didn’t stop that first time, since it is always a unique experience…

The first time I arrived at DreamHack in the B hall, where the Intel Pack4Dreamhack rows are located, it was huge. And then I found out it was only one of the four halls. After installing my gear, I started to walk around to explore DreamHack. King size competition stages, a big expo with the latest hardware and games, food and drink stands, goodies, racks filled with the most powerful firewalls and routers, good looking Swedish girls, DreamHack has it all!

DreamHack is all about the “party” in lanparty. The D hall is the biggest lanparty hall with a huge stage in the front. It boasts a powerful sound system, an epic lightshow, lasers, special effects and if you add four days of nonstop DJ’s, live performances and giveaways, you get magic.

To realize the large number of seats, space is limited. At DreamHack, 80 cm is all you get to set up your gear. They even use euro pallets with wooden planks on them to fit the 15.000 participants in the four Elmia halls.

The first day, around 4 PM the opening ceremony started in the D hall. Loud music, laser beams, video projection, light show and a excited crowd is the official start of the event! I highly recommend to watch it live trough the DreamHack live stream or, even better, to come and enjoy it yourself with Intel Pack4DreamHack!

The ambiance at DreamHack is great, you can start a conversation with everyone, they all have the same interest and even the smallest/junior participants at DreamHack are good in speaking English. At random moments they play funny popular songs through the speakers like epic sax guy, nyan cat, 100 ways to love a cat etc., on which everyone starts to clap and cheer. They also scream “hallooooo” through the hall as long as they can maintain, to get a big applause afterwards.

Everybody asks me which games I play. I’m sorry, but I don’t game that much. When I go to a lanparty it’s for the atmosphere, the crowd and the things around. Gaming can be done at home, having an awesome DreamHack experience with friends not that often!

This upcoming DreamHack winter will be my fifth Intel Pack4DreamHack, and i’m still excited what this edition will bring! Meeting new people, making fun with the other packers, enjoy the great atmosphere…  Every DreamHack edition is a unique adventure, bring it on b*tches!

A movie is worth a thousand words, this is DreamHack through the eyes of a packer:

Special thanks to Intel Pack4DreamHack and their partners for making this more than awesome trip possible! Every edition I have a LAN experience that I’ll never forget!
I hope to relive it for years to come!
