#MeetAPacker – Thys A.K.A. Karlo

Published on November 19th, 2013

thys-tepoeleKarlo will be there again. As some of you might know, this will be my second attendance of Intel Pack4DreamHack’s journey. Here are some of my thoughts for the upcoming event.

A few days in rainy Netherlands left and then… back to Sweden, back to the biggest and best gaming fest there is. In the country with, at this time of year, long nights and cold freezing temperatures. A new journey, new experiences, all experienced during a great weekend with awesome people.

I’m thinking back to my first DreamHack. Going there not knowing what to expect, I had heard some stories, read a few blogs, saw some pictures, thought I knew what I would see there. At time of arrival it happened: I was blown away by the entourage, people (read: women) and amount of gamers. It was the whole package. Some of you might have read it in my previous blog, but I have to apologize, it’s fully written in Dutch and I can’t translate it to English without giving it the feeling I had.

Then the big question: ”If it was so good. It was everything already, why would you want to go again Karlo?
I’ll try to explain.

At my first DreamHack, I had a blast. It was great. I want to proof to you all it wasn’t a made up story. It wasn’t just some marketing bullshit, it’s all about ‘Eat, Sleep, Kickass, Repeat‘.
So the last thing I’ll do, the first two you can manage by yourself, the third one: just do it and join.

This time I’ll go there knowing what to expect. The serious gaming, the land of IKEA with the construction genes built into the crowd’s DNA, a lot of gorgeous women and even more things someone wouldn’t expect at a gaming party. This time I’ll even play less games. This time I’ll be looking for a greater story, something that will exceed even the minds of the biggest criticasters.

So a quick resume of my upcoming experiences:

  • Some off-the-record interviewing with some real gamers.
  • Some wild partying, need some help on this.
  • A lot of fastfood I’ll have to get rid of later.
  • A lot of laughs with the whole team.
  • Win a competition that’s being organized.
  • Write some more about the Swedish guys present there, since there are not a lot of women joining the Dutchies.
  • And above all I want to learn a new game.

I mean, if the entourage is as great as it was in the Summer…

For now I’ll leave you with this. I’ll write a full experience story when I’m back home. A new suitcase full with stories will unfold. These will be shared when I’m back here in the rainy country.

#MeetAPacker is a series of blogs where our lucky participants get a chance to tell their story of Intel Pack4DreamHack. Their experiences, thoughts and stories are what make this event so unique and fun to do for us. Read the stories and get to understand the minds of our own.
