An Interview with KAOS!

Published on June 16th, 2011

Today we’ve interviewed Roachz, about his upcoming trip to Dreamhack, the biggest game-event of the world, which will take place in Jönkoping, Sweden. Roachz plays for Kaos Gaming, the dutch team that won the Qualifier at The Party last April and will be fighting teams like Na’Vi in the main competition.

So, there’s only one day left before we leave to Jönköping. How is everything with you and the team?

The team and I are doing fine, thank you. I’m very excited for the big event, and a bit less excited for the bus trip ;). We’ve practiced alot the past couple of weeks, and now we just need to wait until we can show our skills at DreamHack itself.

It is not the first time that the Kaos Gaming team will be playing in the Main Tournament of DreamHack isnt it? And what are your expectations?

No this is not the first time we play at Dreamhack. But I don’t know much about the past events while I wasn’t in the organization back then. Personally I’ve been to Dreamhack one time before, together with my former team CNO, which included also dDd , Skire and Ferrid. Back then we placed 8th in the BYOC. I think this time will be different, since we had more practice then before, we hope to end higher this time. We also had a small bootcamp at my home last weekend to get some extra practice. So we are aiming for the best possible result!

Sadly dDd had to leave due to other obligations, how did that effect the team, and offcourse how is his replacement, Skire doing?

Were sad that dDd could’nt come with us to Dreamhack summer this time, because he’s amazing at motivating the team with only his appearance, and he has a certain play-style that’s pretty rare. Skire is different, he likes to really get involved in strats and is more of a aggressive player then dDd is , so we have a bit more offensive play-style in our team then before. We have a good atmosphere and mix of players in our team.

Currently you guys are the number one team in the Benelux, after winning at The Party last April, how do you feel about that and what do you think are the expectations from the fans?

Well I personally stopped 2 times with CounterStrike for about a year but everytime someone from my old team, or some new people can really motivate me to start playing CounterStrike again. I also think it’s more important to have fun while playing the game with you’re team, and that you get along with youre teammates, then when you only want to represent the best aiming team. Offcourse skills are important too, but try to have fun while playing a game! The biggest motivation for me is going to lan-party’s. At The Party we practiced as much as possible, and it was worth it! We placed 1st after coming back from a tough lowerbracket. Basicly beating all the teams we wanted too, so that made us very confident, and that’s really nice for the whole team. Looking at Dreamhack; this is our new goal, (what’s gonna need a lot more practice than before), we are gonna try to perform on an international level, and basicly leaving the Benelux in the past, but ofcourse we will defend our title for The Best of the Benelux.

So, you guys did a bootcamp last weekend? How was that?

Yes, we had a bootcamp which I always find an important mental training, and also we can compare ourselves with our teammates qua skills. We also had allot of practice against the topteams we will actually face at Dreamhack. We know now a little bit more what to expect, so that’s always good

Ow, and I’m a master chef in making pasta, so that always helps.

What does your family think of the fact you’ll be traveling all the way to Sweden just to play a computer game?

My parents support me in my gaming, even while they dont really understand the game I play. But if I go to an event they are always very excited, especially when we win. I think that’s all the support parents can give you, since they think, “It’s just a game”.
