DreamHack Winter is the place where world records are broken year after year. And this time was no different. While DreamHack normally only breaks their own attendance world record, they have shattered four different records this time around:

– Visitors during DreamHack: 20.968 (New World Record)
– Hosts on the network: 13.010 (New World Record)
– Fastest Internet usage: 23,4 Gbit/s Upstream
– Fastest Internet connection during a LAN: 120 Gbit (over 300+ kilometres)

Other numbers we found from DreamHack are also very impressing, to say the least:

– Recycled cans: 125.000+
– DreamArena: 4000+ visitors
– Internet usage: ~850TB Upstream, ~845TB Downstream (1.69 PB total!)
– BYOC seats: 9200+

O, and our own record of 150 Packers is one that is also very special, especially to us 😉 !

    Awesome numbers! 😀

However quite surprising that with +12.000 unique hosts no more than 23.4 Gbit/s is achieved (= +/- 2Mbit/s / host), when know that there was 120 Gbit/s available…
Probably by the heavy internet traffic caching (proxy), …

dat is denk ook mede door het feit dat alle tafels maar met een 100mbit switch waren verbonden.

@Querex: ze hadden die snelheid al toen er nog niet een 4000 man zat :) daarna werd er niet zo veel gedaan :(

Hehe, i can imagine the belgians are amazed ;). But DreamHack is a gaming lan first, and downloading doesn’t happen as much since everyone in Sweden has big connections (100mbit FttH) so it is not needed to do it on LAN 😉

Tja, downloaden doe ik thuis wel. Zelfs met een 1Mbps verbinding kun je films sneller downloaden dan je ze in de praktijk kunt kijken, tenzij je echt geen leven hebt en nauwelijks slaapt.
