Online cosplay competition started

At the time we’re writing this, DreamHack is having this online cosplay competition where one cosplayer can win a direct finale spot. An awesome opportunity for all cosplayers out there of course and also quite important, since you can win over 40.000 SEK (roughly 4300 euros). Unfortunately, none of our packers are competing in this online competition because we have three fresh cosplayers with us as well as IP4DH cosplay veteran Merel/Willowcookie. She is busy building a brand new costume, completely different from the ones she made before (as usual, Merel likes challenging herself), so she didn’t sign up for a finale spot. Hopefully the four of them will be able to compete during the DreamHack cosplay competition this year, we’re helping them out so we can confirm this as soon as possible. We will introduce our three cosplayers later.

The online competition features a lot of cosplayers from different countries, and especially the ladies from Greece are doing pretty well. Maria/Lethiel already received more than 1500 likes, Anneta has more than 3000 likes and Horo has more than 2400 likes, while all other contestants have less than a 1000 likes. And we have to say that they indeed look beautiful and/or very awesome. For some of them this is quite an important competition as well, because their attendance at DreamHack depends on it. Lethiel, being third at the moment, is planning to portray Tyrande. Tyrande is a well known character in both the Warcraft universe and Heroes of the Storm. She doesn’t think she can reach first place because of the two cosplayers above her, but she always happily attends events in Greece.

“I probably won’t go. I’m now third and the gap between me and the second girl grows bigger. At the moment I can’t afford cons abroad, but we’ll see how it goes. We still have three weeks to go, right?”

During our many bus rides we talked to a few cosplayers already, and I am always surprised how nice and enthusiastic most of them are. Showing off your handmade work on stage is one of the best things in the world to them and while winning a competition is an amazing reward for all the effort they put in, the fun aspect seems way more important. Lethiel is no exception. Instead of seriously competing with the other cosplayers, she recommended us to talk to Josephine/Avnxt from Sweden as well. “She’s really awesome, ultra cute and super nice! She is going to cosplay Leona from League of Legends”, she said.

I first saw Josephine portray Foxfire Ahri at DreamHack Winter 2014 and after checking her other cosplays from photos online she became one of my favourites. At the moment she is having difficulties promoting herself and has a little more than 220 likes in the competition. She doesn’t worry about it though. Since she’s from Sweden herself she will attend DreamHack no matter what.

“I got well known for my male version of Jarvan (League of Legends). Foxfire Ahri helped out a bit as well, but self promoting is meh. I gave up on the competition. A lot of people already have over 2000 likes. I have no chance!”

One of Josephine’s opponents last year was Christina/Chrix from Norway. Just like Lethiel, she isn’t sure yet if she can attend and just like the other cosplayers I talked to, she is way too kind about her competitors. On her entry it said that she has too many cosplays to choose from, but she gave us a little more information on what she wants to portray: “I’m not sure I can make it to DreamHack Winter. I entered the competition they have, but a few of the others have way more likes than me. Especially the one who’s leading the competition. She’s from Greece and I’m kinda glad she is getting so much response on her photo. It would be a great opportunity for her to experience a Nordic convention. If I do end up going, I am now working on a kick ass version of Red from Transistor. If not, I really really want to make this Druid Tier 17 Mythic!”

She rocked a pretty cool Demon Hunter last year and looking at her photos it seems like she knows what she’s doing. We hope to meet Chrix this DreamHack as well.

I can’t wait for dreamhack! Would love to see all those cosplays in real life. Keeping my fingers crossed that Christina will be able to come. Thanks to her blog/tutorial ( chrix design) I was able to make a Vi cosplay of my own.
Good luck to all the contestants 😀

Remember to credit the photographer for the pictures. I see that it was forgotten, surely just a mistake :)
